Traditional, French village in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, with a fantastic, secret locals’ mountain.
Les Gets is linked into the huge Portes du Soleil ski domain which offers a staggering 650km of skiing and claims to be the largest ski area in the Alps. It caters for all levels, from beginners to off piste powder hounds. You can even ski to Switzerland and back in a day, because the domain encompasses Swiss resorts too. Don’t miss the locals’ mountain, Mont Chery, which is always quiet and offers challenging skiing including a particularly hard-core black run.
Les Gets is also an unspoilt traditional farming village with plenty to explore, and it has much to offer the non-skier. There is snowshoeing and snow-hiking, as well as ice skating on the little rink in the centre of the resort. Many mountain restaurants are accessible by cable car so the non-skiers can join the skiers in the middle of the day too, and there is even the mechanical music museum.
