North-facing, empty ski slopes plus full access to Verbier’s fabled ski area
La Tzoumaz is fully linked in to the whole, fabulous Verbier/4 Vallées ski area, simply via a lift up to Savoleyres. La Tzoumaz itself is a fantastic ski area too, however, and faces north so holds its snow well. It is also quieter than Verbier and great on powder days because its runs don’t get tracked out as quickly as they do in Verbier.
La Tzoumaz has a claim to fame: western Switzerland’s longest toboggan run (10km) is located there. Snow-shoeing is also popular in the area – the switched-on, extremely helpful tourist office will arrange guides for this, and there are some lovely trails through the forest. Non-skiers can also get to Verbier by lift in around 30 mins. The village has a small swimming pool too which is good for children and an ice rink, while plenty of other activities are on offer in Verbier, including ice driving and parapenting.
