Valhalla is a gorgeous, spacious, sociable ski chalet located in a plum position within walking distance of Chamonix and dangerously close to top après joint the MBC. It does great food, has great service, the views of Mont Blanc are massive, oh, and it is brilliantly located for accessing all the ski areas of the valley. A chalet that is hard to beat.

Valhalla is an elegant, spacious ski chalet with a grand structure, and is beautifully contemporary. It is flooded with light from the floor to ceiling windows in the living space, giving massive views of majestic Mont Blanc. The look is contemporary with a touch of traditional Savoyarde, hence there are large, beige, squishy sofas in the living space, lots of natural timber, a roaring fire and a giant moose head on the wall.

This luxury ski chalet sleeps up to 15 and has seven genuinely spacious bedrooms all with en-suite bath or shower rooms. The bedrooms are beautifully appointed with crisp bedlinen and L’Occitane toiletries.

One of the bedrooms has a mezzanine with mattresses where one or two children can sleep and there is a large  dormitory/family room on the first floor with up to four beds.  There is a separate cloakroom on the ground floor.

Chalet Valhalla is a fully catered ski chalet and food and wine are an extremely important part of any stay.  The chefs have years of experience working in private homes or in restaurants around the world, and they source the finest local ingredients and take their inspiration from the specialities of Savoy and further afield.

The catering includes a hearty continental breakfast (porridge, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, croissants etc) homemade cake and tea after skiing and on five evenings each week, a four course dinner with wine. The chefs do not have a fixed menu but enjoy creating menus to suit your preferences. A very good house wine is also provided and you can also upgrade to a carefully chosen wine list.

Sample starters tested by yours truly during my stay included a light chestnut and mushroom veloute with truffle and a seared scallops with cauliflower puree, Parma ham and a raisin and chilli vinaigrette, followed by roast poussin and carrots, shaved carrot salad, mange tout and juices and on the second day, pan Fried market fish with prawn and asparagus risotto and tarragon. These delicious dishes were followed by a melting selection of French cheeses and then desserts including homemade Tiramisu with blueberry sorbet. My favourite was a dark chocolate ganache with salted caramel and peanut nougat. Just yum.

The chalet has an outdoor Jacuzzi hot-tub and massages can be laid on at extra cost. It also has a new sauna.

This luxury ski chalet offers a discount on catered chalet prices for children under 13 years.  There is also a Wii and board games, as well as a large garden for them to play in.  Baby paraphernalia can also be provided, from cots to highchairs and car seats, and childcare can be arranged at the chalet. too  There is also an optional early supper for children.

The lovely spaciousness and the central location.

If you are wanting romance and privacy, this big, sociable ski chalet is not right for you.

LOCATION

This Chamonix chalet is set in an idyllic spot beside a forest and is also only a short stroll to the centre of town. More importantly, it is located just behind the popular MBC burger and après bar, just at the beginning of the road up to Argentière. As such it is easily strollable into town and really well-placed for accessing all the ski areas in the valley.

It has wonderful views of Mont Blanc and is a 5 minute drive from the nearest lift station.

The chalet is located in Chamonix which is just over an hour from Geneva. Transfers can be arranged, at extra cost.

MY TOP TIP

It would be rude not to have a good après-ski session at the nearby rocking MBC, Chamonix’s only micro-brewery, which is just within staggering distance of the chalet.

GUESTBOOK

“Beautiful, comfortable chalet in a great location.  Lovely views of the mountains.”

“A really good holiday experience, and I’m picky, so only 1 in 5 gets that response, even though I only book top-quality places. Well done.”

“This was probably one of the best ski holidays overall that we have had in terms of service, facilities and location.  We are already thinking about coming again.”
