Twenty26 is a beautiful, contemporary, boutique ski chalet that is located a little way up the road from the family-friendly resort of Morzine in the mighty Portes du Soleil.

It is stylishly appointed, with designer lighting, colourful soft furnishings and cutting edge digital extras. It also comes complete with in-house cinema and fabulous spa terrace with sunken hot-tub as well as outdoor wooden barrel sauna.

The chalet takes its distinctive name from its address along Route de la Manche. The owners Chris and Sarah didn’t want a cheesy name, especially in Morzine where many chalets have cheesy names, and ‘Twenty26’ reflects the sleek, chic, contemporary nature of this luxury ski chalet perfectly.

Chalet Twenty26 has sharp, modern interiors without losing the old wooden ski chalet vibe at all. The look is stylish and contemporary, with a boutique twist on traditional Alpine style and lovely pops of orange in the spacious, open-plan living and dining area. This also has a feature woodburner, while an expanse of glazing and huge wrap-around balcony takes full advantage of the sweeping mountain views.

There are six large ensuite bedrooms in this luxury ski chalet, including one junior suite. The bathrooms have sumptuous rain showers and luxury Compagnie de Provence bathroom products, but none has a bath. All bedrooms have king-size beds which can be configured as twin beds for flexibility, and two family rooms have ample space for an additional single bed or cot. Bed linen, towels and robes are all from The White Company.

Chalet Twenty26 is a fully catered ski chalet and has a passion for delicious food and fine wine. Its professional chef liaises with guests to design a bespoke menu and it sources quality ingredients locally whenever possible. A cooked breakfast is served each morning, alongside a delicious continental buffet. Home-baked tea-time treats are waiting in the chalet in the afternoon and on six out of seven evenings the chef prepares a four-course gourmet meal. For family groups a children’s supper can be served a little earlier, and of course they can cater for guests’ various dietary requirements.

The chalet also takes great pleasure in selecting the very best wines to accompany the food and they believe that their house selection is among the finest on offer in the Alps. The house selection includes six wines as well as a champagne, chosen to suit a variety of tastes and to complement the chef’s delicious food. Chalet Twenty26 also features an impressive wine cellar with a wide range of à la carte wines from the Old and New World as well as the local region. The list is extensive but fairly priced, meaning that guests need not feel guilty about indulging in a few premium bottles during their stay.

The chalet has a fabulous spa terrace with outdoor heated pool and sunken hot-tub, both with fantastic views of the mountains, plus a charming outdoors wood-burning barrel sauna. The pool has a swim-jet and a sliding wooden cover to keep it safe for children when not in use. Chalet Twenty26 also has an indoor spa suite with private treatment room, steam room and relaxation area. It works with a team of professional massage and beauty therapists who can offer lovely in-chalet treatments.

Children are most welcome at this luxury ski chalet. Kids love the hi-tech gaming gadgets in the cinema room which include a Playstation 3 and a Nintendo Wii. The owners also have a lovely dog, Layla, who loves children and will happily play snowball-fetch with them in the garden. The chalet can also source wooden cots for the rooms, as well as games, and it has sledges in the boot room. The garden is also huge and safe.

The ‘digital chalet’ features – guests can stream their own movies and music at the touch of a button. A truly 21st century ski chalet. Plus the orange cushions (my favourite colour!).

Perhaps the lack of a giant picture window to maximise the knock-out views, but I’m quibbling really.

LOCATION

This ski chalet is located in the traditional Alpine town of Morzine, at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Only 500m from the Nyon cablecar in the Vallee de la Manche, this Morzine chalet is ideally situated close to the pistes and the town but in a tranquil and private location.

MY TOP TIP

Hire a guide for the day because it is such a huge ski area and there are lots of fantastic hidden places. The chalet uses The Edge, an excellent English ski school, and they can arrange top instructors to take you out.
