What’s not to love? A beautiful, light-drenched, superbly-located, contemporary chalet in the heart of world-class Zermatt with knock-out views of the iconic Matterhorn. A real find.

Chalet Sunnubiela has recently been completely renovated, using local wood and natural products combined with lots of glass, to ensure maximum light and unbeatable views. The result is a luxurious, modern yet still cosy mountain residence, with clean lines and zero clutter.

The spacious lounge has an enclosed wood-burning fireplace and has luxuriously comfortable seating to enjoy the stunning views of the majestic Matterhorn. It is equipped with a plasma television with multi lingual channels including several English TV channels (BBC & ITV), DVD player, CD/radio/iPod docking station and free wifi.

The lounge is open-plan to the dining area and kitchen. The dining area has a long natural wood table that comfortably seats 12 and the kitchen is spacious and well-equipped (dishwasher, coffee machine, microwave, raclette, fondue etc…).

Sunnubiela is spread over four floors. It has three double rooms and three singles, each with a wash basin but none is ensuite. There are two shared bathrooms, both with shower, wash basin and loo, plus there is an additional shower in the wellness area where the Jacuzzi hot tub is located.

Slippers and Molton Brown toiletries are provided in each room.

Sunnubiela is a self catered chalet but homemade food deliveries can be provided by the operator’s chef on request.

There is an infra-red sauna, double Jacuzzi bath and shower (useful as an additional bathroom).

The chalet is not ideal for very young children as it comprises four floors, all of which are accessible by stairs without a stair gate.

The Matterhorn views, the tranquil yet central location, the light-filled space.

The shared bathrooms and the lack of catering, but Zermatt has lots of gorgeous restaurants for you to eat out in, and the shared bathrooms keep the chalet price reasonable, in what is a very expensive resort.

Chalet Sunnubiela is situated in a lovely, elevated position in a tranquil, wooded and preserved area of Zermatt where the wildlife roam freely but which is still very conveniently located for the town centre and the main Matterhorn cable car station — both of which are just a five-minute walk away.

Access to the chalet is by a private telecabine but it is also accessible by a well-maintained footpath through the wooded area. It is a great location for relaxing, in complete privacy, whilst still being close to all the local amenities.

There is a shop, restaurants and a children’s playground just six minutes away in Winklematten.

It takes 4.5 hours by train with only one change from all the main airports — Geneva, Zurich and Milan. There are easy train connections from Geneva and Zurich airport which each have train stations in the airport, and the chalet can advise on how to obtain reduced rate train tickets if purchased before entering Switzerland. They can also organise taxi transfers from all airports.

Zermatt is a car free village so if travelling by car you can drive as far as Tasch where you must leave the car in the main car park of one the garages and travel the last 10 minutes by train (trains run every 20 minutes) or taxi. Electro taxis are available at the train station to take you to your chalet.

Remember, I have visited all the chalets we feature so can give you totally unbiased, independent advice on all of them. The prices I quote are also the list prices quoted by the chalets themselves, so there is no advantage in going to the chalets direct.
