Sometimes it is just nice to come across a much-loved, family-owned chalet that is not all designery but just a cosy retreat in the mountains. Chalet Renard is that chalet. It doesn’t have minimalist slate bathrooms with gleaming chrome or high-tech sound systems. What it does have, though, is charm and cosiness galore – but with lovely spacious bedrooms, a giant fireplace and even a hot tub and sauna.
This Morzine ski chalet is made of traditional burnt wood and is designed for comfort with its huge open fire, pretty garden and all round mountain views. There are blankets and books and hot water bottles and DVDs and every possible creature comfort. The kitchen has also been newly updated by a local carpenter and is lovely and bright, and the open plan living space has a giant L-shaped sofa wrapped around the fireplace.
Chalet Renard has four good-sized, beautifully furnished bedrooms – all with terraces, two ensuite and two sharing a Jack & Jill bathroom. There is also a separate loo on the ground floor.
This Morzine ski chalet is a self catered chalet but catering can be organized with a local Cordon Bleu chef who is a friend of the owners.
Chalet Renard has a lovely garden which is bathed in sunshine and has a table and chairs. There is also a deep Japanese hot tub and a separate infrared sauna.
This luxury Morzine ski chalet is totally family-friendly with its safe, enclosed garden – perfect for making snowmen – but there are no specific separate facilities for children.
The fireplace, the garden with hot tub and huge mountain views, and the owners’ dog, Foggy (they live in the self-contained apartment in the basement and have a lovely dog who will be kept away or introduced to guests as they wish!).
Chalet Renard is not, as I say, a gleaming, shiny, super-modern designer chalet. If that is what you are looking for, then this Morzine ski chalet would not be right for you. It’s just cosy and lovely and a real home from home.
LOCATION
Chalet Renard is situated on a quiet lane on the sunny side of town – about 50 metres from the ski bus stop and about a 5 minute walk to the local bars and shops in Montriond. It is about a 15-minute walk to the centre of Morzine.
