Chalet Perdu ticks all the right boxes. Short transfer from Geneva; five minutes from the nearest lift in Les Gets, in the Portes du Soleil; gorgeous, chocolate-box charm, and fabulous food and drink.

The chalet is a real treat, stylishly done out with fur throws and big candles everywhere. It has a superb wrap-around balcony which is a divine place to sit out on, sipping on a glass of fizz wrapped in a furry rug and watching the sun go down.

This infinitely charming wooden ski chalet is traditional Alpine chic in style. Old shutters are opened each morning to reveal magnificent views and closed at night for cosiness and warmth. There is a burning log fire, the soft glow of elegant lamps and burnished leather sofas, candles everywhere and fur throws galore. It is the ultimate Christmas chalet, hugely snug and cosy.

This luxury ski chalet has five bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms, but it can sleep up to 12 with the addition of two extra single beds on a mezzanine in one of the rooms, accessed via a ladder. Each bedroom is different but all have amazingly comfortable beds with fluffy duvets and crisp white linen. One has a sleigh bed and views all the way over to the peaks of Pras de Lys, another is a Heidi-style hideaway, tucked away at loft level, others are either twins or doubles with antique pine beds and similar knock-out views. The Mazot provides two extra rooms on a B&B basis.

Chalet Perdu is a fully catered chalet and the price includes seven breakfasts and six three-course dinners with wine plus champagne on the first night. Dinners are simple and uncomplicated, featuring fresh local ingredients beautifully presented with Savoyarde mountain influences. The house wines are a top end Sauvignon Blanc and an excellent Merlot, but guests can upgrade to the highest quality available through the supplier in advance of their stay.

This ski chalet has a private outdoor snowy hot tub located in the garden with panoramic views facing west. Les Gets also has a fabulous health spa offering a wide range of treatments and massages as well as a Clarins beauty salon, all just 20m from the chalet.

Chalet Perdu is genuinely child-friendly. It has a lovely, totally safe garden which is perfect for snowman-building and tobogganing and snowball fights. There is a totally separate TV area on the ground floor, away from the dining and living area, which is the perfect place for rowdier guests to play. It has Nintendo and Wii, as well as Sky Sports and Movies.

Babysitting is also available; an excellent nanny service can be arranged on request, priced according to age and number of children. There are lots of children’s shops in town too, from a bon-bon shop to a children’s hat shop and a toy shop selling handmade wooden toys. Early children’s suppers can be arranged featuring fresh, home-cooked simple dishes.

The gorgeous styling and the really handy location.

The rooms are not huge — the whole chalet is small and cosy rather than vast and spacious — but that just adds to its charm.

LOCATION

This Les Gets ski chalet is just 150m from the main Les Gets lifts and is right in the centre of the resort on the north side. Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain, with 650km of fabulous skiing for all levels. In-resort transport is not provided by the chalet because it is really not needed; everything is only a few footsteps away. The tourist office is just 200m away as is the ice rink, and the nursery slope is just 50m away. The Chavannes express and telecabin are also only 100m away. A little train runs around the village and Chalet Perdu and the main lift are on the route. There is also underground car parking under the ski slope and lift just 100m from the chalet, should you wish to drive.

MY TOP TIP

Après-ski drinks in the cosy Arctic Lodge beside the chalet are a must. My favourites are icicle whisky or mulled wine, served in wooden goblets. Curl up on the reindeer skins round a roaring fire. Heaven!
