“Lovely lovely Chalet Coco — brilliant hosts, blessed also with great snow and sunshine. Everything just perfect – why do we have to leave!”
Beautiful family ski chalet in hidden gem setting
Low season: from €9,450 whole chalet; Mid: from €10,450; Peak: €13,450
St Martin de Belleville, Trois Vallées
Sleeps: 10
I love Chalet Coco because it is a genuinely gorgeous, luxury ski chalet just outside one of my favourite resorts, St Martin de Belleville in the Trois Vallées. It is tucked away in the pretty, historic hamlet of Villarabout, where residents keep chickens and still make their own cheese – a far cry from the bright lights and glitz of Courchevel and Méribel.
Contemporary mountain chic. Think lovely open-plan living space with cream sofas, lots of pale wood and a knock-out designer central square fireplace.
There are five large en-suite bedrooms in this St Martin de Belleville chalet that can all be either super king doubles or twins. Each is spacious and beautifully appointed, with gleaming granite and chrome bathrooms equipped with plentiful toiletries from The White Company.
Chalet Coco has a full-time professional chef who can produce top-flight breakfasts, afternoon teas and evening dinners, plus there is a fully stocked open bar in the chalet.
This luxury ski chalet has an outdoor wooden hot tub with stunning views.
Chalet Coco welcomes children. There are high chairs and stair gates for babies plus a selection of DVDs, games, books and toys for little ones. The master bedroom has a separate TV and sofa so that children can watch TV there if they want to, and there is also an in-house nanny service available upon request at an extra cost. Children can be served a high tea if preferred at a time to suit the family, or alternatively they can have a child’s meal but eat with their parents as a family. This approach can be mixed too, with some evenings of eating together and others separately.
The chalet’s tranquil location, knock-out views and gorgeous interiors.
Villarabout is not for those seeking the bright lights and rocking après-ski of a bigger resort.
LOCATION
This luxury ski chalet is located in the genuinely timeless and charming Savoyard hamlet of Villarabout, just 800m from St Martin de Belleville in the Trois Vallées. It is four minutes from the St Martin lift, from where you can access all the skiing. There is a taste of a real mountain community here: villagers still smoke hams in the smoke house, collect water from the village pump and keep chickens and goats.
GETTING THERE
St Martin de Belleville is at the beginning of the Val Thorens/Les Menuires valley in the Trois Vallées. Best to catch a flight to Chambéry if possible, or else Geneva, from where it is a two hour drive. Chalet Coco doesn’t include transfers but can organize them on booking at an extra cost, usually between €350-400 for a 7-seat VW Transporter one-way.

You can enjoy steaming hot chocolates by the fire and you will be the first to see the weather clearing up. If it doesn’t, it’s still an easy ski home.
