Aphylla is new for winter 2015-16 so there are no guestbook quotes just yet.
Modern luxury in traditional alpine village
Low season: from £2,500 whole chalet; Mid: from £3,000; Peak: from £8,000
Summer: £2,000 per week in July & August
St Martin de Belleville, Trois Vallées
Sleeps: 8 (up to 18 if combined with Aralia next door)
Chalet Aphylla is a rare thing — a flexible chalet that can be booked on either a self-catered or catered basis. It is also located in the pretty, authentic mountain village of St Martin de Belleville, my favourite Trois Vallées resort.
This luxury ski chalet is decorated throughout in a contemporary alpine style, using warm brown and neutral tones, local woods and textured natural materials. The lovely living area has two large comfortable sofas facing each other where guests can sit and relax in the light of the glass-fronted log fire.
Aphylla can be booked either as a self-catered chalet or as a fully catered chalet. If self-catered, the price includes daily housekeeping, fire making and in-resort driver service. If catered, the chalet uses fine-dining restaurant trained chefs who provide breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. They are passionate about their food and take great care over menu design and the sourcing of great ingredients.
Canapés are served before each dinner, which consists of three courses plus cheese and coffee with petit fours. Premium paired wines are on offer each evening with dinner, along with excellent additional wines in the open bar.
Chalet Aphylla has a sauna and a lovely outdoor hot tub on the terrace.
Children’s books and games are provided. The chalet also has a DVD library for children. Removable stair gates can be installed on the stairs to offer parents piece of mind and the chalet can provide high chairs and cots for under 2s. Children can also be served a high tea if preferred at a time to suit the family, or alternatively they can have a child’s meal but eat with their parents as a family. This approach can be mixed too, with some evenings of eating together and others separately. There is an in-house nanny service available upon request at an extra cost.
Such stylish, luxury ski chalets that can be booked on a self-catered basis are hard to come by, so Chalet Aphylla is a real find.
Chalet Aphylla is the sister chalet to Chalet Aralia which is joined to the chalet next door, so neither is completely stand-alone. Some might prefer total privacy, although together they do make a great party combination or a perfect set-up for big groups.
LOCATION
Aphylla is, like its sister catered chalet next door, Chalet Aralia, set back from a very quiet road, just a 2 minute chauffeur-driven journey from the centre of St Martin de Belleville and the lifts. It has nothing opposite it to spoil the open, spectacular mountains views and views over the village.

Don’t miss a trip to the little known La Ferme de Chantacoucou in the charming hamlet of Le Chatelard, just a couple of minutes from St Martin de Belleville. It serves rustic homemade and home grown food. The service and cooking is by the farmer and his wife and their homemade Savoyard saucisson is worth the price of dinner alone!

Remember, I have visited all the chalets we feature so can give you totally unbiased, independent advice on all of them. The prices I quote are also the list prices quoted by the chalets themselves, so there is no advantage in going to the chalets direct.
